The AI Career Risk Senior Women Don't See Coming (And the 4-Question Framework to Fix It)
Show Notes
If you’ve spent 15 or 20 years building your career, it can be difficult to judge what AI and a changing job market mean for your next move. A useful place to start is the work employers need done and how your experience connects to it.
In this episode, I introduce SCAN, the four-question career framework I use with senior women to look at skills in demand, changes ahead, AI’s impact and emerging problems. The aim is to help you read your market and make more informed positioning decisions.
Start your own career market review
Use the questions below as you listen, then explore the SCAN audit to take the next step. Treat your findings as a starting point to investigate, rather than a prediction of what will happen to your job.
What does the SCAN framework cover?
S — Skills in Demand
How closely does your current skillset match what employers are asking for in roles at your level? Look for recurring capability phrases in relevant opportunities.
C — Change Coming
Where is your function heading over the next two to three years, and what could that mean for someone at your level? Consider the changes you need to understand more clearly.
A — AI Impact
Which parts of your work could AI support or perform, and which depend on your judgment, relationships and experience? Use this to think about where your contribution is most valuable.
N — New Problems Emerging
What new problems is your industry facing, and how does your existing experience help address them? Consider whether your positioning reflects that connection.
Try the SCAN exercise
Set aside around 30 minutes and write down S, C, A and N. Use the exercise in the episode to build a first picture of your market.
- For S, note three skills or capability phrases that recur in relevant roles and check whether your profile reflects them accurately.
- For C, write a sentence about where your function is heading and identify what you still need to investigate.
- For A, identify three contributions grounded in your judgment, relationships or experience.
- For N, name an emerging industry problem and one way your experience connects to it.

Turn your market review into clearer positioning
Once you’ve identified where your experience is useful, listen to the IMPACT framework for explaining the problems you solve.
Then use the four LinkedIn signals for communicating your next career direction to review how that positioning comes across on your profile.
